August 13th is Jason Hood's birthday.  Happy, happy birthday Jason!!!!

The children will participate in Literacy and Math Benchmark tests from August 2 -13. The exact dates have not been set, but expect your child to have completed these two very important assessments during that time frame. We will conduct a one-on-one reading assessment for each child as well. The reading assessments will conclude by August 31.  We will also gather a beginning writing sample from our first week of school.  These assessments are very important aas we plan next steps for instruction.

We are known as the Butterflies in my  Second Grade classroom.  This symbol was chosen to illustrate the learning process we go through in Second Grade. Just as butterflies hatch from an egg the children have "hatched" from First Grade.  Now they are in Second Grade and just as the caterpillar eats and eats and eats for nourishment ,we learn and learn and learn for knowledge.  When we have "eaten" all the knowledge possible in Second Grade a period of rest and comfort occurs in our Second Grade "cocoon".  When we have ememrged from that cocoon we will be ready to spread our wings of knowledge and fly away to Third Grade.  Just as a butterfly achieves full maetamorphosis in its natural environment, so to do our children ,in the Second Grade learning environment.
